In 2014 a small group began brainstorming about how they might bring assistance to those in their community that appeared to have such a tremendous need for additional resources. This modest group became the Board of Trustees for Empowered by Grace, Inc. Empowered by Grace, Inc. (EBG) became a licensed nonprofit with a valid 501(c)(3) tax-exemption. The organization was birthed out of the desire to better the quality of life for individuals in Tippah County, MS. This county is home to approximately 22,000 people within several small towns. Each of these quaint rural towns has a charm all its own, but they are also tied together with a common generational thread; poverty. As many as 35% of the families in this community live at or below the poverty level. Sadly, according to the 2016 US Census Bureau data, in homes where a single female is head-of-household, the rate of poverty jumps to 40%.  The focus of the non-profit was on creating opportunities for education, health and wellness, and spiritual growth. Initially, their services were focused on children’s remedial education, but grew to include many additional services to the community including job preparedness, a children and youth nature club, family friendly activities and higher education workshops. 

The services provide opportunities for individuals to experience hands on mentoring, instruction and resources toward greater empowerment. EBG believes that by utilizing local volunteers, often from other nonprofits, and combining their resources and services with donors and foundation funds, we can provide resources that infuse hope into the community. This empowerment, we believe, will give life to generations of individuals who not only move beyond their perceived limitations to realize their goals, but become better citizens who work alongside the network of volunteers to change the lives of others.
